Advanced LSR Molding & Precision Silicone Manufacturing

Rubber One Way Valve
LSR Mold Design & Manufacturing

LSR mold design differs from conventional plastic injection molds due to the liquid characteristics of silicone rubber. LSR has excellent flowability and unique curing behavior, which requires higher precision in mold sealing, cavity balance, and shrinkage control. In addition, fewer standardized components are available in the LSR mold industry, so many molds require customized design and high-precision machining. At Hopewell, our engineering team specializes in designing and manufacturing high-precision LSR molds for micro components, tight tolerances, and stable mass production.

Liquid Silicone Rubber Injection Molding

Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) injection molding, also called Liquid Injection Molding (LIM), is a chemical curing process where liquid silicone transforms into a solid through vulcanization under controlled temperature and pressure. Unlike thermoplastic molding, which relies on melting and cooling, LSR molding involves a chemical reaction. With over 10 years of experience, Hopewell specializes in producing precision silicone valves, micro silicone components, and complex parts, ensuring consistent quality, dimensional accuracy, and reliable performance in high-volume manufacturing.

LSR Overmolding

LSR overmolding, also called secondary LSR molding, differs from 2K or two-shot molding. In this process, a pre-formed component is manually or automatically placed into an LSR mold for a second molding step. Before molding, the substrate is cleaned and treated with bonding agents to ensure strong adhesion with silicone. This technology simplifies assembly while improving sealing and waterproof performance. It is widely used in precision 3C components and high-end consumer products. Hopewell has extensive experience in bonding silicone with plastics, metals, and non-woven materials, and in controlling common overmolding defects.

Compression Molding

Compression molding, also known as hot press molding, uses heat and pressure to cure solid silicone into the desired shape. It is suitable for small production volumes, multiple color variations, or product structures not ideal for LSR injection. Although the precision is lower than LSR molding, compression molding is often more practical for consumer products such as seals, buttons, and parts with deep undercuts. Our team can evaluate your project and recommend the most suitable manufacturing process.

FAQ

Q What is LSR injection molding?
A

LSR injection molding is a manufacturing process that injects liquid silicone rubber into a mold and cures it into a solid part through controlled temperature and pressure. This technology is widely used in industries such as medical devices, food-contact products, electronics, and consumer goods.

Q What are the advantages of liquid silicone rubber?
A

Liquid silicone rubber is available in different grades, including food-grade and medical-grade materials, to meet various industry requirements. It offers excellent material stability, as well as strong resistance to high temperatures, humidity, and harsh environments.

Q How does LSR differ from plastic injection molding?
A

LSR injection molding cures liquid silicone into a solid through a chemical vulcanization reaction. In contrast, plastic injection molding melts thermoplastic pellets and solidifies them by cooling, which is a physical phase change process.

Q Can LSR be overmolded with plastic or metal?
A

Yes, but the substrate material must typically withstand temperatures above 120 ± 10 °C during the molding process. The feasibility of overmolding depends on the specific material grade, so our engineering team will need to evaluate the material specifications.

Q What's the difference between compression molding and LSR injection molding?
A

Both processes are used for silicone products. LSR injection molding uses liquid silicone materials, while compression molding uses solid silicone rubber. Generally, LSR molding offers higher precision and better consistency in mass production.
